Tea farmers in Imenti South whose factory got the highest pay per kilo in the country have been warned against squandering their proceeds following an influx of twilight girls in Nkubu town and its environs.

According to the area OCPD John Cheruiyot, the prostitutes have flocked the area from all parts of the country targeting to drain the pockets of farmers who have already received their annual bonuses from the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA).

“The area has seen a rise in the number of twilight girls since the tea bonus was announced. They intend to fleece farmers of their hard earned cash. We urge farmers to use their money wisely to boost the economy of this area,” Cheruiyot said.

He noted that the prostitutes were also being used in committing crimes in the town and appealed to residents to be careful when dealing with strangers.

“We urge those engaging in the illegal activities to leave the town failure to which they will be arrested and prosecuted. Police will not relent in getting rid of all those making the town insecure,” he said.

Cheruiyot said that police will mount operations to crackdown on prostitutes noting that some are school going children who have become truant.

“Owners of lodges should ensure they keep records of their clients to enable us tame crimes,” he said.

The Police boss urged members of the public to give relevant information that will help in eradication of prostitution in the area.

He called on financial institutions to advise farmers on sound investment options to avert misappropriation which results to family conflicts.

Recently, Imenti South DC Dominic Kyenza advised tea farmers from the district who have benefited from the tea bonus to invest the money wisely.

“Imenti Tea Factory received the highest pay per KG of Sh48.15. I urge farmers to avoid wasting the money in alcohol and prostitution. Ensure that you invest the money wisely to develop this area,” Kyenza advised.
